The 13ft skiff has been designed as an intermediate skiff to provide a reasonably priced stepping stone between the Junior classes such as a Flying 11 and the 16ft skiff. Its purpose is to give teenagers the fun and experience needed to take the step into the 16ft skiff class.

The NSW 16ft Skiff Association administers the class and represents the eight affiliated 16ft skiff clubs in NSW, including Belmont, George’s River, Middle Harbour , Drummoyne  and of course Manly. These Clubs provide professionally managed sailing programs with highly organized sailing committees with access to equipment and boats essential to a successful and safe sailing club.

The 13ft Skiff Division races every Saturday with a delayed start behind the 16ft Skiff Division throughout the sailing season. Fleet sizes fluctuate however the level of talent and enthusiasm for the class continues to grow.

OPENING SEASON CHALLENGE AGAINST THE ELEMENTS

The start of the sailing season was welcomed by a beautiful Manly morning, it was great to see the skiffs all lined up along East Esplanade getting ready to compete in their first race. What a difference a few hours make, by the time the race started the wind and swell had kicked in for a tempestuous afternoon of racing.

Making the decision to test their skills against the gusty conditions, 17 skiffs set sail across the 13ft & 16ft Skiff Classes. It was to be a baptism of fire, the wind increased throughout the race with the Committee boat recording consistent 30 knot S-SE breezes in very lumpy sea conditions.
